So long, farewell!

It is with great sadness that I write this blog post as it will be my last. Due to work commitments geting more full-on, I just don't find the time in the day to write about my life in the world of fashion. It's been nearly a year since I left the world of Entertainment behind and despite my HUGE reservations at the beginning, I think I'm really starting to enjoy it.

Despite my preconceptions, coloured by the worlds of Ugly Betty and The Devil Wears Prada, everyone in the industry (bar two people, who will not be named!) have been wonderful and so much more down to earth than the movie peeps I used to deal with. And I am a girl who can be bribed and boy, you get great goodies working in this industry.

So it's been short, but very sweet. Writing this blog has definitely helped the transition but it's off with the braces and specs and onto embracing my inner Anna Wintour! FAREWELL!

Must buy item: Geri Halliwell's playsuit

TopShop playsuit as seen on Geri Halliwell - It's fashion, dahling! The playsuit/jumpsuit was a bubbling under item last year. I got my mitts on two different types last summer and wore them to death. I'm a total convert - they really are much more flattering than you think. The only downside is having to strip off when you need the loo so they're not very good for camping/festivals/etc!

Geri Halliwell obviously agrees with me! She was spotted at Asda in Milton Keynes (oh the glamour of a Spice Girl, eh?!) wearing this gorgeous little star print TopShop playsuit.

Wear it like Geri with heels for an evening out or team with flip flops and a straw hat for a casual day look. It's just so versatile!

Other good places to buy one of these little numbers is ASOS or Miss Selfridge.

Celebrity Style: Rachael Leigh Cook goes pink at Cannes!

Rachael Leigh Cook at Cannes Film Festival - It's fashion, dahling! In my past job, the Cannes Film Festival was a big deal. Not only was it about the celeb gossip, but also about the movies natch. In this job, the frocks are the stars.

To be honest, I've already had my fill of these movie gowns. There doesn't seem to be a lot of individuality this year and even Cate Blanchett, whose style I normally admire, looked a bit dull.

Thank goodness for former-model-turned-actress Rachael Leigh Cook. She stepped out in this gorgeous hot pink creation, which is fun and youthful. She looks her age, which I think is sometimes a problem with these full on red carpet frocks. Rachael has managed to look cute in everything she's worn in the South of France this week.

The only accessory I'm not too sure about is her bearded hubby, Daniel Gillies. Normally, Daniel looks hot, so let's hope the facial hair is for a movie.

If you do one thing this weekend...

... get your SJP fix prior to the Sex And The City movie opening with Smart People. Sarah Jessica Parker plays a doctor who falls in love with a widowed professor. There are no Manolos, but it's meant to be pretty good!

... up the glamour stakes with some Marilyn Monroe film action. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is on the box on Saturday afternoon. You know it's bound to be raining so stay inside and get an injection of '50s glamour. This is my favourite Marilyn film - you're bound to get some style tips as well!

... cheer yourself up with some Eley Kishimoto sunglasses. They're on sale at Brand Alley at the moment and are just delicious. Very '50s in style, you could wear them while watching Marilyn!

... go out in the country. Yes, it's raining but who cares. Just pull on a pair of Hunter wellies - I'm going for the navy, but you could push the boat out and buy a pink pair if you so decide!

Must buy item: Get skating with Dorothy Perkins!

I'll hold my hands up and admit that I'm not much of a Dorothy Perkin's fan. I find their clothes are often lacking in inspiration, plus close up they always look a bit, well cheap.

However, occasionally they do pull out all the stops.
First they had that gorgeous jumpsuit, which sold out in double time. Now, they've introduced this cute floral skater skirt.

It ticks all this summer's trend boxes - floral, full and short. In fact, it looks very much like some of the skirts Urban Outfitters is selling. The main plus point however is that it costs a bargainous £22. So even if this trend dies a death by autumn, you've not wasted your dosh!

News Round-Up: Cannes Film Festival kicks off!

Jack Black at Cannes with Kung Fu Panda - It's fashion, dahlingIn honour of my old job in the good ole Entertainment world, I'm doing a Cannes round-up today, starting with...

Must-buy item: Cute Warehouse cover up

Warehouse silk embroidered cover up - It's fashion, dahlingThis burst of unseasonal sun has made me think of summer holidays. The older I get, the less clothes I like to take so it's becoming more important to buy dual-purpose holiday clobber.

This gorgeous silk cover-up from Warehouse fits that bill perfectly. You could throw it over your bikini with a little denim skirt to take you from beach to bar. Or it would be equally at home over a cute little dress, with a tan belt thrown over it for that casual Ibiza bar-hopping look. Once home from your summery destination, it'll look great over a vest with jeans and flip flops.

So even though it may seem expensive at £45.00, it's really a bargain considering the amount of wears you'll get.

Sarah Jessica Parker jets in for the SATC premiere

Sarah Jessica Parker - Sex And The City premiere - It's fashion, dahling!Like nearly every thirty-something, Sex And The City was a ground-breaking TV show for me. Not only did it feature lots of lovely frocks, but it also talked about sex - something that had been missing from mainstream TV. For me and my single friends it was a reassuring - and entertaining - show to watch. I may not have owned a pair of Manolo's or a Fendi handbag, but I could still identify with the man situations the glam foursome found themselves in.

When the show ended, myself and six girlfriends went out to watch it at a special night - we supped Comos and sobbed with joy as Carrie got it together with Big.

So you can imagine my delight to see they would make it into a film - I just hope it doesn't disappoint. The great news for us UK fans is the world premiere of Sex And The City is not taking place in New York but little old Leicester Square, London.

Sarah Jessica Parker was out in the capital last night dining with fellow star Cynthia Nixon. As usual SJP looked amazing. In my eyes, this woman can do no wrong. Yes, she may not be conventionally pretty but I think that adds to her charms. She also seems to make the most ordinary outfits - in this case, a below the knee petrol blue dress - look so stylish. Even after SATC has finally gone to the fashion graveyard in the sky, this lady will still be looking hot! Check out more pics of SJP on PopSugar.

If you do one thing this weekend...

Patrizia Pepe sunhat on ASOS - It's fashion, dahling!... get out in the sun - it may be the only sun we have ALL year. To make the most of it, throw on this cute sundress. Plus, make sure you lather on the suntan lotion and for extra protection channel the Great Gatsby in this gorgeous Patrizia Pepe hat.

... pay a visit to the seaside. My faves are Whistable for some real old fashion seaside glamour, Torquay and Hove (it's quieter than Brighton but just as cool!

... go ape! If you're feeling more energetic, why not try swinging through the trees for a day. I've done it and it's great fun. It is exhausting but just think of all those calories you're burning!

Have fun!

Must-buy item: Lily print Oasis dress

As I sit and type this, the sun is blazing and it's really hot. OK, it may not last long but I'm loving every moment and intend to spend the next few days wafting around in cool cottons and flower prints.

This beautiful strapless dress from Oasis ticks every fashion box. Retro prom? Tick! Flower print? Tick! Wouldn't look out of place on Lily Allen/Peaches/Fearne Cotton? Tick!

Snap it up now and don't save it for a special occasion. Pop on some flat gladiator sandals for a dressed down look ala Kimberley Stewart at a festival. This would also look great with a faded '80s style denim jacket - so Aggy!

Kylie's back on tour and Pamela Anderson is selling up!

The interesting things on my radar this week...

1.Kylie's tour kicked off in Paris last night and she looked fantastic. This is a slightly bittersweet moment for me as I was meant to be seeing her in Antwerp tomorrow night but the friend I was staying with had a family tragedy so we had to postpone. Am obviously extremely gutted for friend but also a tad sad that I'm missing out and have to wait until July - sigh.

2. I'm in the middle of press show hell at the moment, but it does have some gems. I went to see New Look a couple of weeks back and their stuff looked amazing. But like Disneyrollergirl, I wonder why the stuff we see in the store is sooooo different to what they show at these previews.

3. The sun is shining so it's time to get on board with one of summer's big trends - straw. Top Stylista has her picks of the best straw bags out there - TopShop it seems is going big on this craze, so head on down there if you want to be a summer trendspotter!

4. Eva Mendes is fresh out of rehab and back to work as the face of Calvin Klein. Here's a sneak preview of Eva's shoot with Calvin Klein.

5. If you've always fancied being on Baywatch (and let's face it, who hasn't?!), now's the time to indulge this fantasy. Pamela Anderson is selling up a load of her stuff, including the iconic red Baywatch float, a bikni and some furniture!

Behind the Scenes: Top beauty products reviews

This morning as I nearly broke my neck on rogue beauty products in my spare bedroom, I realised that I've got far too many products for one girl. I'm not complaining though as I love this perk of the job. Yes, I have to deal with very shallow, image-obsessed people, but I also get good freebies.

So as part of this blog, I thought I should impart some of my beauty pearls of wisdom so you too know about these fabulous products!

HQ Hair ocean mist spray - It's fashion, dahling!First up is this little lovely from the unpronounceable Swedish firm Sachajuan, which is available at HQ Hair. The blurb about the Ocean Mist giving your hair a beach feel is really true, except you don't have to get sand up your bum, which can only be a bonus. The day I used it on my hair I had so many compliments. I usually wear my slightly wavy hair straightened but this brings out my natural curl making me look like I've spent the morning surfing on Bondi beach, when in reality I've been crammed into an overground train trying not to inhale someone's stale sweat. Bonus!

My second revelation is Max Factor. Maybe I've just been a bit slow to cotton onto this brand, but I've never bought it before, however, since I got sent lots of freebies, I'm a convert. First up is the miracle touch foundation - it goes on so smooth and gives great coverage without making you look like you work on a make-up counter! Next is Max Factor's Masterpiece Waterproof Mascara. It has fairly good staying power, but the clincher for me is the fact it defines my spindly lashes so well.

So that's my faves at the moment - why not let me know if you've tried any new beauty products? Or perhaps there's one thing you can't live without? Post a comment now!

Celebrity Style: Kate Moss at the Costume Institute gala

Kate Moss at the Costume Institute Gala in New York - It's fashion, dahling!I'm not normally a big Kate Moss fan. I think she only looks good in the stuff she wears because she's do darn attractive and well, modelly. She also looks like she needs to have a good wash.

However, I really do think she's pulled out the all the stops in this gorgeous Grecian frock, which she wore to the recent Costume Insitute gala. She looks really sleek and the dress looks new, as opposed to a skanky bit of fabric she's found lying around.

I also love Kate's make-up - very understated as normal but with the gorgeously casual up-do, it just makes her look even more like a Grecian queen.

If you do one thing this weekend...

Puggles - It's fashion, dahling!... discover a fashionable new breed of dog. I'm torn between a puggle (a pug mixed with a beagle) or a goldendoodle (a golden retriever mixed with a poodle). The days of the small it dogs are over!

... pretend summer is nearly here. Well it is meant to be around 19 degrees tomorrow - woo! Celebrate the start of the sunny season with this lovely TopShop sundress and these gorgeous fringed sandals - tribal is so very in for this summer.

... wear your favourite slogan t-shirt to Executives and Secretaries and Denim T-shirt Slogan Party at Papermill, 2-5 Curtain Road, EC2. Choose one of these lovely little Uniqlo lovelies - my favourite is this local guide t-shirt, although be prepared to be asked for lots of directions!

Have a great bank holiday - see you on Tuesday!

Thursday, May 1, 2008

Must-buy item: Pink M&S jumpsuit

Pink M&S jumpsuit - It's fashion, dahling!Sorry for not posting for a while - it's been a mixture of illness and too much work that's kept me from my computer.

Anyway, business is now resumed with this lovely little summer must-have. Sometimes Marks & Spencer hit exactly the right fashion note and their latest Limited Collection items are no exception.

This gorgeous M&S playsuit is just perfect for holidays - or the rare occurance of bank holiday sun!

It can be dressed up with heels and jewels or thrown over a bikini with flip flops - plus the lovely pink colour will look simply wonderful with a tan. What's more, it's the bargain price of £19.50.

Behind the Scenes: Revenge of the Z-listers

Last night I went to a party for which I had high hopes. It was to launch a new website called I Hate My Look. Even though the title is dubious, the concept is great.

Basically two very experienced celebrity stylists - Nick Ede (of Project Catwalk fame) and Brendan Courtney (of Clothes Show fame) - have got together to offer an exclusive personal shopping experience for us civilians.

At just under £1,500 it's not cheap but not only do you get their expertise and discounts, but you also get to take in a show and have a few cocktails with the guys.

Camilla Dallerup - Strictly Come Dancing - It's fashion, dahlingIt all sounded very glam and what with the launch taking place in Kate Moss' fave hotspot, Punk, I was extremely excited about the forthcoming launch. It was with great sadness that upon arrival I realised that not even Vanessa Feltz (who has used Nick and Brendan's services before - ahem!) was there - and that woman has followed me to nearly every showbiz even I've ever been at.

No, the only 'celeb' I spied was Camilla Dallerup - Gethin's dance partner on Strictly Come Dancing. Oh well, the booze was free, the venue was lovely and the goody bag was OK.

Now I just need to find someone to pay the £1500 fee to allow me to have a miraculous makeover!

News Round-Up: Is Geri dating a Desperate Husband?!

I've decided to move the news round-up to Tuesday as I seem to have more behind the scenes goss on Wednesday, so here are the stories keeping me entertained this week...

Geri Halliwell with new man Ivan - It's fashion, dahling!Geri takes her new man on a double date with George Michael and his partner. Is it just me or does Ivan look a little like Carlos from Desperate Housewives?! Geri is looking darn hot at the moment - am loving her jumpsuit!

Kylie releases a new video in the states. I'm not sure about the bondage gear but elsewhere she looks sensational.

Are these the cutest celebrity babies ever? Heidi Klum took her 3 kids out for some weekend fun and they are just gorgeous. Coming up close to the title though is Matt Damon's little girl - cute hair and dress.

Coleen gets the sack! Yes it's true, ASDA have dropped Coleen McCloughlin from their campaigns. They apparently want someone more like Helen Mirren! Is this the beginning of the end of the WAG?

New beauty products out this week... In the states, NARS has released a new lipgloss and nail varnish in the much lusted-after Orgasm shade. When is it coming out over here? And if you have a dog - as I do - you might like to purchase this doggy hairdryer. It will be sure to make your pooch's hair sleek and stop that annoying shaking they do when they're wet - because they're worth it!

Celebrity Style - Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia in a tartan trench coat - It's fashion, dahling!Anyone who reads this blog regularly will know I am obsessed with the Princess of all Aussie's, Kylie, so it's probably no surprise, that fellow Oz girl Natalie Imbruglia has made it on to the blog this week.

I've always loved the way she dresses. She's fashionably without being trendy. She looks modern but wears clothes her way.
This outfit is a point in case. She's flung on a tartan mac and teamed with skinny jeans - neither of these items are particularly fashion forward, yet she looks amazing.

I think the reason she looks so fabulous is because she is comfortable in her clothes and has found her own style, something at 34, I've yet to do!

Friday, April 18, 2008

If you do one thing this weekend...

Madonna - Vanity Fair exhibition - It's fashion, dahling!... go and wonder at the power of photography at the Vanity Fair exhibition at the National Portrait gallery. It finishes next month and is a definite must-see if you like celebs and fashion as I do!

... buy this uber cute Osamu Tezuka t-shirt from Uniqlo, as seen on Chloë Sevigny in their recent campaigns.

... get ready for the return of Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford returns on 22 May. Weirdly, for someone who has worked in the world of film for the past 8 years, I haven't seen a single Indy film so I've borrowed the Indiana Jones box set and am indulging in some action-packed fun this weekend!

... be eco friendly and fashionable with the help of the new BBC Thread site. It's got eco fashion tips and so much more - visit it now for some inspiration!

Must-buy item: Go peachy with Paul and Joe Sister

Paul and Joe Sister peach shirt - It's fashion, dahling!I don't normally spend a lot on my clothes but every once in a while, I do try and invest in something that's slightly better quality.

So far, I've bought a Antik Batik dress and an Alice McCall skirt - next up is a Luella t-shirt and hopefully this lovely little peachy number.

I love Paul and Joe and their diffusion line, Paul and Joe Sister, is just in that save-up-for-a-couple-of-months-but-still-doable bracket.

This little number will look fab tucked into a pair of high waisted wide-legged jeans. Equally it will look gorgeous teamed with a little denim skirt and some cute pumps. Summer is on it's way - hurrah!

News Round-Up: Good and bad celebrity hairdos

These stories are on my radar this week:

Lily Allen goes blonde. Why do celebrities with dark skin try and go blonde? It's not a good luck love - get the brunette dye out.

New Bond girl Gemma Arterton has a hair makeover
for Quantum Of Solace. I thought she looked fab with a brunette bob in the St Trinian's flick, but I'm loving the red hair even more.

Help stop global warming with Wayne Hemmingway. Find out more at B&Q and win a sweatshirt designed by the man himself.

Kylie and Will hug in public. Are they friends again? I don't mind that, I just don't want that man, with his Doctor Who loving ways, near her in a fashion sense every again!

Yellow is the big colour for spring/summer. Why not bag yourself this lovely little lemon number from Miss Selfridge? I have!

Surprise, surprise - it's Cilla!

So I went to the Arcadia autumn/winter preview yesterday and it was fab. TopShop have once again come up with the most wonderful clothes, including a mad harlequin dress (very Miu Miu) and some fabulous shoes.

Trend wise, it seems headpieces such as headbands and fascinators will be big, as will brooches - all the ranges featured these.

Cilla Black - It's Fashion Dahling! There were some nice winter colour choices - Miss Selfridge had purple and coral, which look amazing together - and Dorothy Perkins had some lovely coats, including a pink checked fluffy number that wouldn't have looked out of place on a '50s movie star.

After the preview, I was lucky enough to be invited for VIP drinks with Sir Philip Green - head of Arcadia. He seemed pleasant enough but looks a bit like a wheeler dealer, which I suppose he is.

The highlight of the evening though was when Cilla Black appeared. A few years back I had a boogie with her and Duncan James to Kylie at a premiere party and let me tell you, she looks better now than then! She's really glam with very slim legs. Her companion was really dapper. Maybe Cilla's going to bring out her own range of clothes?!

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Behind the Scenes will be back tomorrow

I'm off for a sneak preview of the TopShop, Miss Selfridge and Dorothy Perkins autumn/winter line today so I'll fill you in tomorrow on what's coming up. Plus, later tonight I get to have a drink with Kate Moss' mate Sir Philip Green - if there's any goss, I'll post it here!

Monday, April 14, 2008

Celebrity Style - Keeley Hawes loses the '80s perm!

Keeley Hawes - Ashes To Ashes - It's fashion, dahling!I felt quite sorry for Keeley Hawes when she was appearing in Ashes to Ashes. The '80s was hardly the most flattering of decades, yet she pulled off the skin-tight jeans and faux perm with aplomb.

However, I was delighted to see her new look, which she unveiled at the premiere for Flashbacks Of A Fool.

Gone are the dark curls and in it's place is a lovely blonde modern hair-do. Keeley is one of those lucky girls who can be brunette or blonde and this shade really suits her. To complement her look, she's jumped to another decade - the '60s - with a lovey sequinned shift and plenty of black eye liner. Now she just needs a new TV role that suits her glam new look!

Friday, April 11, 2008

If you do one thing this weekend...

TopShop free style advisor service - It's fashion, dahling!... give yourself a style makeover courtesy of TopShop's Style Advisor service. Book an appointment and you get a personal stylist running round the store for you, while you relax in a lovely dressing room that doesn't smell of feet! This fabulous free service, which I sampled for myself last night with the help of the lovely Naomi, has just got even better! They've just launched a Style Advisor loyalty card so the more time you use it, the more freebies you get. It's a winner all round.

... scare yourself silly at the
London Dungeon and their new exhibition about Jack the Ripper - eek!

... pretend it's summer already and purchase a
pair of sky-high heels from Asos.

... tune into
Pushing Daisies on Saturday night at 9pm on ITV1. It's about time Saturday night viewing got good enough.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Must-buy item: Do an Aggy with bright tights

Agyness Deyn in white dress with bright tights - It's fashion, dahling! The model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn showed just how to deal with seasonal changes by teaming her spring/summer white dress with some bright coral tights.

Not only does this keep her outfit really fresh looking, but it also keeps her pins nice and warm - something you need with this bizarre ever changing weather we're having at the moment. Snow in April anyone?
Bright coral TopShop tights - It's fashion, dahling!
The other great thing about this quick fashion fix is it's nice and cheap.

Pop down to TopShop to buy these lovely bright tights and give your outfit the Deyn look for the bargain-ous price of 6 quid.

News Round-Up: Mel B gets catty

What's going on this week...

Mel B has launched her own clothing range called Catty Couture. I'm not sure about it being on any catwalk soon though - it looks like the kind of garb you can buy of Stacey's stall on EastEnders.

I can't quite believe it but Bobby Brown apparently dated Madonna back in the day.

Stella McCartney is one of the few designers really proving their green credentials. She already refuses to use leather or fur in her collections but now Stella is expanding her Eco Collection.

Demi Moore's personal trainer spills the beans on how she got her fabulous figure. It doesn't make for very pleasant reading though. This bloke doesn't sound like a personal trainer but a total misogynist - as if she was ever 'thick'. Sigh.

Is it just me or is Renee Zellweger finally starting to look, well, normal again. She's put some weight on and is really glowing. To be able to divert my attention from my number one crush Mr Clooney while at the Leatherhead premiere just proves that she's looking fab.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Behind the Scenes: Leona Lewis doesn't want to hurt little animals!

I was lucky to catch a sneak preview of the D&G Autumn/Winter line. The clothes are to die for. Gorgeous dresses with unsual fabrics (gauzy tops with cord bottoms), tartans and fabulous shoes.

While I was there, I overhead the stylist who looks after Leona Lewis aying just how well D&G clothes fit Leona. She has, apparently, a body to die for. It's so not fair, eh? She's beautiful, can sing and has a killer bod - sigh!

The stylist also informed the press person that Leona wouldn't wear D&G's leather jackets or shoes as she doesn't wear leather - she really believes in animal rights. So not only is she talented, beautiful and has a killer bod, but she's also caring and just darn nice.

Celebrity Style - The original super, Linda Evangelista

Linda Evangelista in Louis Vuitton - It's Fashion, Dahling!I don't care what rubber-faced Janice Dickinson says, for me the original super-model is the truly gorgeous Linda Evangelista.

She's inspired many a haircut of mine, plus I've learnt how to pose for a good photo by putting my hand on one hip and pushing the other one out.

So it's good to see at 42, she still looks amazing. OK, she may have had some Botox but she's still got great personal style (as seen here in Louis Vuitton at the gala opening of the "Murakami" exhibition in New York).

She dresses elegantly but not too old and she really understands detail - fabulous necklace, great shoes, bright orange nail varnish. I just hope I can be as stylish as she is when I hit my '40s.

Friday, April 4, 2008

Normal service will resume on Monday!

It's not big and it's not clever but I am way too hungover today to even contemplate thinking further than going home and lying on my sofa, while eating my body weight in Thai food.

I went to a big awards ceremony last night and of course drank far too much so am paying the price now. It didn't help that I had to get up at 6.30am to walk the dog.

Btw, if anyone has a celebrity style icon they'd like to nominate for Monday's post, let me know!

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Must-buy item: The best summer dress ever?

Warehouse denim dress as seen in LOOK - it's fashion, dahling!OK, this denim dress from Warehouse may not look much but I think it's a real winner for spring/summer.

It's flattery for most figure types, is dead on trend with it's cute 50s style and most importantly, extremely versatile. Dress it up with bright wedges; sling on your flip flops or white pumps for some holiday sightseeing; put a long sleeved stripey t-shirt underneath for colder days.

It's pure fashion genius.

Oh and by the way, my shopping ban officially ends tomorrow - watch out the West End, I'll be hitting those shops with a vengeance on Saturday!

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

News Round-Up: Madonna eats chocolate SHOCKER!

Madonna as seen in UK Elle magazine - It's fashion, dahling! The stories grabbing my attention this week are...

Madonna is featured in this month's edition of ELLE where she declares her love for British chocolate, in particular Cadbury's Creme Eggs!

Katie Holmes gets a new haircut - is she trying to ditch the Posh look?

Someone else steals my idea of not buying any clothes for a set period. She's rubbish as she only lasts a month... I've lasted 3 and a half!

Another day and another shot of Mena Suvari's arse. It's very perky but please put it away love.

I'm so glad I went home and ate chocolate instead of going to this launch as I was meant to. Don't know who was the biggest celeb - Nancy Lam, cleaner Aggie or BB loser (and now bezza mate of Amy Winehouse's) Aisleyne.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Behind the Scenes: Why does everyone rate Alexa Chung?

Alexa Chung talks to The Guardian - It's fashion, dahling! The former model turned TV presenter Alexa Chung was all over the web yesterday due to an interview she gave to The Guardian. I'm not sure what the fuss is about this girl. I think her presenting skills are OK but nothing special.

She's obviously pretty and fairly stylish but aside from that, I'm not sure why everyone likes her so much. Especially when she talks about being in the heartbreakers group with Kelly Osbourne (why is it cool to be cruel?!), reading Lolita and drawing pics of the author Vladimir Nabokov. Sigh. Yet another model has to prove she is intelligent.

It reminds me of the time I interviewed Natalie Portman. She is possibly the most beautiful movie star I've ever met. At the time she had shaved her head for V For Vendetta and she still managed to look gorgeous. However, as soon as she opened her mouth, my crush was over. Damn that girl is boooooring. She spent the ENTIRE time talking about Goya (admittedly she was due to be in a film about the artist) and listed every... single... book she's read in the last year.

I don't know why beautiful girls feel the need to prove they are also intelligent. If they just talked naturally, it would be so much better. Possibly the most intelligent actress I've interviewed as Emmy Rossum - she was only 7 when she performed for the Metropolitan Opera in New York, singing 20 different operas in 6 languages! Again, she is very pretty but she didn't feel the need to prove her academic worth.

Monday, March 31, 2008

Celebrity Style - Model Raquel Zimmerman is my new fashion crush!

Raquel Zimmerman on a Karl Lagerfeld shoot - It's fashion, dahling!OK, I usually steal well away from models in this bit of my blog as I don't think they're always that stylish. Some like Agyness Deyn obviously are - others just look like they've got out of bed. However, after seeing Raquel Zimmerman appearing in a photoshoot for Karl Lagerfeld, I've just had to include her.

I don't know whether it's her cool hair or her fun attitude but she just looks cooler-than-cool.

I googled her (see I know nothing about fashion so this is the first time I've heard of her) and she really is an example of how a haircut can change a model. With long hair, she was a bit... well... nothing.

So here's to shorter hair (obviously the fact I have a short bob with a fringe doesn't cloud my judgement here at all) and models who look like they're having fun!

Behind the Scenes: Celebrity chauffeurs

Jason Orange is reunited with his dad - It's Fashion, Dahling!Apologies for not writing much this week - it's been kerazy at work. I had to jet off to Barcelona on Wednesday for a one hour meeting with Mango. Yes, you read that right - I went all that way for a one hour meeting. It was exhausting, especially the 2 hour drive back from Heathrow.

However, I was well and truly entertained by my driver. His name was Roy Snell and he's a bodyguard, an actor and an ex-fighter. He had so many good celebrity stories, which he'll probably be publishing in his autobiography this year.

He had so many good stories, it's hard to say which is the best but it was probably the tale about Roy dumping love-rat James Gooding into a wheelie bin (Kylie calls Roy bear). Roy also initiated the make-up conversation between Jason from Take That and his dad. Jason even name-checked him at The Brits. How cool is that?!

He's driven or bodyguarded nearly anyone you can mention - Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Madonna, Bros...
He was a lovely bloke though - really genuine - and he made those horrible 2 hours on the M25 much more enjoyable. He's making a film called 9mm with Bob Hoskins, Michael Caine and his best mate Ray Winstone in November - I hope he makes it big!

Celebrity Style - Victoria Beckham needs to relax!

Victoria Beckham and Kate Beckinsale do lunch in LA - It's fashion, dahling! What's wrong with this picture of new bezza friends Victoria Beckham and Kate Beckinsale?

Judging by Posh's super skin-tight get-up, you'd think the pair were off to some swanky LA do. However, it transpires they were heading off for a picnic instead. How did Posh sit down in that dress?

Kate Beckinsale has got the laid-back LA look down to a tee. She's cool and smart but without looking like a lady who lunches. Victoria however, always looks like she's dressed up to the nines. She couldn't even attend a baseball match last year without her trusty heels.

I'd love to see Posh in a really casual ensemble such as Kathrine Heigl wears so well. C'mon Posh - try to be Not So Posh for just one day.

If you do one thing this weekend...

Dirty Sexy Money is on Channel 4 on Good Friday - It's Fashion, Dahling!...indulge in some glamour US-TV style with the first episode of Dirty Sexy Money on Friday night on Channel 4.

... eat lots of chocolate, especially any of these gorgeous looking eggs from Hotel Chocolat.

... get running! It will take an average size woman about 50 mins to burn of an Easter egg! Check out other ways to burn those calories off with this activity calculator.

... snap up some Giles Deacon. His new collection for New Look is out now and you can buy selected items on the New Look website.

... chill and relax. It's the only four day bank holiday of the year so enjoy!

I'll be back on Tuesday for more fashion fun.

Must-buy item: Gingham is go!

TopShop gingham jacket - It's fashion, dahling!Even though it's freezing cold outside, there's something about Easter that makes me think of Spring. I know it's come early this year but I still want to ditch the winter wardrobe and break open some new floaty, colourful clothes.

Of course you still have to be practical - it's no good swanning around in a gorgeous tea dress if it's zero degrees outside.

So that's where this gorgeous gingham jacket comes in. It's only £50 from good ole TopShop and is one of those pieces fashion magazines calls transitional - i.e. you can wear it now and in spring/summer.

How cute will this look with a pair of faded cropped jeans? Or slung over a cute floaty ruffle dress? I'm very much in love... roll on April so I can start buying!!

Is anyone bothered about Kate Moss?

Kate Moss new TopShop range - It's fashion, dahling!Floating around on my radar this week are the following news/gossip titbits:

1. Does anyone care about the new Kate Moss TopShop collection? According to the Daily Mail, it's a big fat no as hardly anyone showed up yesterday at the TopShop launch. To be fair, any following season isn't going to really be as big as the debut, especially as Mossy herself turned up for all of about 3 seconds in the window that time. Also, maybe the civilians are cottoning on to the fact that Kate just copies her favourite designer togs rather than creating something new and exciting.

2. All the papers are full of the details of the Mills-McCartney divorce today but hardly anyone has noticed how bad Heather's personal style is. It just goes to show you that not only does money not buy you love but it also doesn't buy you taste.

3. It's celebrity makeover day as Jessica Biel goes back to her natural brunette locks (thank goodness) and Gwyneth Paltrow has gone for the chop. As you'd expect from play-it-safe Gwyneth, it's hardly radical but it looks a lot better than the Donatella Versace style she had before!

4. Poor ole Sarah Jessica Parker. She was recently voted the unsexiest woman alive by some magazine. It must be difficult to deal with such nastiness, but let's not forget that Maxim is a magazine whose ideal of beauty involves pneumatic breasts and orange skin.

5. Banana Republic are coming to the UK. Their new shop launches tomorrow (20th March). I must be the only person who isn't excited about this. I found their shops in New York so uninspiring - for me it's just clothes for city workers, but perhaps this new shop will prove me wrong.

Behind the scenes: Top stylists and more fringes

So it's week two after having the snip and the fringe count has gone up by 2. I am obviously a trend starter - sigh.

In other news, we have a new celebrity stylist coming on board in the mag but it's all hush-hush so I can't write anything about it just yet. But I am VERY excited as I'm a big fan! Once they're onboard, I'll be dishing the dirt - ha ha!

Has Kylie dumped Will Baker at last?

Kylie and Will Baker part company - It's fashion, Dahling!I've written about the fact that Kylie's style has been going downhill but there may now be a chink of light in that grey cloud. The Daily Mail reports today that Kylie and Will are no longer as chummy as they once were and that he will be working with other celebrities and on other projects.

Thank the lord I say. Not only will Kylie hopefully rediscover her great sense of style, but she may also find a bloke now that her gay husband isn't always sniffing around her.

Celebrity Style - Going back in time with Mia Farrow

Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra wedding - It's fashion, dahling!I don't know whether it was because she married one of my all-time idols Frank Sinatra, who whether she was just inanely chic, but I've always loved Mia Farrow's style. I'm not talking her hippy bohemian style of today but her chic '60s look.

Take this wedding picture of her and Frank. She epitomises everything to me that says casual elegance. She looks hip without trying too hard. Elegant without looking old. Young without looking cheap.

Now with the horrifying news that Michael Bay is to remake Rosemary's Baby, I think now is a good time to start channeling Mia's chic style.

So, whether it's adopting her cool elfin crop and smock-dress wardrobe of the said film (she made maternity wear look so cool) or mooching about in her '20s floaty wadrobe and cute curls seen in The Great Gatsby, my recommendation is to make your spring/summer style Mia friendly for that cute and quirky look that will set you apart from the rest of the fashion bunch.
